Fertile ground for golden regrets
The work distils the experience of a road trip through South Africa, from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back, which was not only a physical journey but one of deep contemplation.
Traversing unfamiliar spaces, leaving with snapshots of lives alien yet strangely recognisable, real yet illusory in their fleetingness, I am confronted with questions: Where do I belong in this South Africa - this place called home? Where do I look for my identity in this cultural diversity, this complex history, this fragile and fragmented present?
I find myself immersed in the journey of a people who search for redress and hope for belonging - revisiting memories, harbouring regrets and unrelenting privilege, building visions that always seem to reveal themselves as just another brief stopping point along the way.
Adrift in uneasy anticipation and fractured understanding, a sense of displacement persists.
