Ronél de Jager visits the 2012 Grahamstown National Arts Festival
These images will enlighten you and take you on a personal journey through Ronél's visit to the 2012 Grahamstown National Arts Festival.
She could not record all her steps as taking photos in performances were prohibited, but after an inspiring 22 shows in 5 days, she did not want to walk away selfishly.
"I'd like to encourage anyone who views this album, to make an enthusiastic effort to be part of the future National Arts Festivals and support our astounding creative talent in South Africa", says De Jager.
Some of my highlights were: London Road, a heartfelt drama production; Moffie, an emotional combination of dance and theatre; the conflicting Cradle of Humankind performance by Steven Cohen; insightful walkabout with Maureen de Jager at her exhibition Maria’s Story; Venus At Home exhibition by Usha Seejarim; Gerald Clark & Luna Paige’s Blues performance; Retinal Shift exhibition by Mikhael Subotzky; the delightful physical theatre production, Keepsake minus 3; side-splitting comedy by Rob van Vuuren & David Newton; a fun and creative production, Manolibera; the nerve-racking fringe drama F.A.T; heartfelt music by musicians, Gary Thomas, Arno Carstens, Nibs van der Spuy, Guy Buttery, Lucy Kruger & Laurie Levine... and lastly my best, Nicola Hanekom in her one man performance HOL ...running on a treadmill from start to finish while undertaking a poetic dialogue with herself in Afrikaans was a well deserved Golden Ovation Award winner.
